Innovation Needed to Boost Progress in Indonesian Infrastructure Projects

More than 150 infrastructure players and stakeholders came to conclusion that there is a need for the application and adoption of innovative technologies and solutions in infrastructure projects in Indonesia. This was the resonant consensus at the Nusantara Infrastructure dialogues Series held today in Jakarta.

Bernardus Djonoputro, Managing of Nusantara Infrastructure emphasized during the conference; "Indonesia should not adopt a business as usual approach, since infrastructure development is still lagging behind. With the rapid urbanization phenomenon, many urban areas in Indonesia are growing at such a speed that they will require innovative technologies solutions to create more liveable cities".

The new frontier of Infrastructure development poses new challenges for Indonesia. The distinguished forum discussed the importance of focusing on technological solutions that are sustainable and environmentally sound. Infrastructure projects need to apply innovative design and models to address the problems of efficiently, best-in-class standards, climate change, natural resources and environmental preservation. At the same time, it is imperative to have a sound financial model to ensure the financial and economic benefits of these projects.

The Dialogues Series today was held in cooperation with Austrade as part of its long track record of commitment in promoting and facilitating Australian business value propositions to the market. “Australian solutions in rapid urban transportation solutions, energy savings to sound project financing solutions are amongst the exhibits of Australian's experience in the infrastructure sector", said Kim Hewett, Senior Trade Commissioner, Austrade.

The guest speakers in the conference include Mayor Tangerang Selatan Municipality Hj. Airin Rahmi Diany; Dr. Kam Tara, Director URaP-TTW; Matt Baldwin, Grocon International; Simon Babes, SKM Colin Buchanan; and Brad Kim, Macquarie Capital Group. The attendance today included investors, professionals and industry leaders from both Australia and Indonesia, coming from a diverse background, including toll roads, ports, water and electricity as well as energy.
