Jakarta, 17 June 2020 – Residents of Dairi and Kapubaten Karo Regencies, North Sumatra will soon receive additional electricity supply by the operating Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) owned by PT Inpola Meka Energi (IME) located in Lau Gunung Village, Tanah Pinem District, North Sumatra. Until May 2020, the construction of the Lau Gunung hydropower plant with a total capacity of 15 MW has reached a development progress of 91.5% and is planned to be operational in December 2020.
Director of PT Inpola Meka Energi (IME), Agus Choliq said, "we continue to do our best so that the Lau Gunung hydropower plant can operate in 2020, as accordance to the set schedule. Although the project work has been slightly delayed due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Lau Gunung Hydroelectric Power Plant will support various community activities in terms of education, economy, industry and others through the distribution of electricity to various places. The operation of the hydropower plant will certainly also support the central government's program to increase the electrification ratio while at the same time supporting the reliability of regional electricity supply, thereby minimizing power disruption due to lack of electricity supply in the area ".

Lau Gunung Hydroelectric Power Plant uses river flow and is a new type of renewable plant that is pollution free so it is safe for the community and the environment. The Lau Gunung hydropower plant also has a watershed (DAS) of 519.34 km2 with a main river length of 47.5km. Later this power plant will serve approximately 10,000 households in 2 regions namely Dairi Regency and Karo Regency, North Sumatra through the electricity network owned by PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN). The Lau Gunung hydropower plant absorbed around 229 workers during the construction period, consisting of local Dairi Regency workers, workers in the Medan, North Sumatra and several other areas. The existence of this project has contributed to the improvement of resource competencies in the Province of North Sumatra, particularly in Dairi Regency.

Meanwhile, Dairi Regent Dr. Eddy Keleng Ate Berutu said that he welcomed all the progress made by PT Inpola Meka Energi in the construction of the Lau Gunung Hydroelectric Power Plant which could still be carried out even though it was still in the covid-19 pandemic atmosphere. "The Dairi Regency Government and specifically the people of Dairi Regency are waiting for the construction of the Lau Gunung Hydroelectric Power Plant to be completed according to the planned schedule so that the energy needs for North Sumatra, specifically the Dairi Regency can be met properly".

Eddy added, that the investment in the electrical energy sector carried out by PT Inpola Meka Energi (IME) with an energy capacity to be generated at 15 MW greatly helped the government in encouraging the acceleration of regional economic growth. "The energy sector is one of the important factors in supporting the economic activities of the people".

The Lau Gunung Hydroelectric Power Plant construction process continues to run normally in the midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic by applying the Occupational Health & Safety Management System Standard (SMK3) and Covid-19 prevention protocol in a disciplined and strict manner in the project environment. A number of Covid-19 prevention and handling procedures have also been made and implemented in all work units since March 2020. This is a commitment of the Company so that the project can be completed according to plan while maintaining the best quality and continuing to run a health & safety management system in the work environment .

The company has provided various preventive facilities in accordance with the Covid-19 protocol, namely by placing portable hand-washing equipment in several work locations equipped with soap, providing personal protective equipment (PPE) equipped with masks and gloves and conducting a series of health tests, such as rapid test. These various steps are carried out as a form of the Company's commitment and concern to all workers and the local community, so that the project area remains in a safe, healthy condition and always maintains controlled and maintained environmental conditions as much as possible.
Not only for workers, the Company has also carried out Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities in the form of providing health and sanitation support facilities to communities around the operational area, namely in Tanah Pinem Village, Kuta Buluh Village, Kuta Gamber Village and Kempawa Village. The assistance consists of supplements or vitamins, portable hand washing facilities equipped with liquid soap, disinfectant liquid, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as protective eyewear, masks, gloves and raincoats. In accordance with the direction of the Dairi Regent, IME Management will also collaborate with the Dairi Regency Government in terms of health socialization to the community, especially in the market area.

Overview of PT PT Inpola Meka Energi (IME)

IME is an Independent Power Producer (IPP) company for the 15 MW Lau Gunung Hydroelectric Power Plant located in Tanah Pinem, Dairi Regency, North Sumatra Province. The IME share ownership is owned by PT Energi Infranusantara, PT PP Energi Tbk, a subsidiary of PT Pembangunan Perumahan (PP) Tbk and PT Tagora Green Energi. The company has a 20 years power purchase contract with PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) or PLN, to supply electricity to residents of North Sumatra through the PLN electricity network.
